Changes: Shipping & Custom Orders

Classes start for me on Tuesday, January 20th, so that means...

1. Shipping changes to Mondays and Thursdays.
2. For custom orders, please expect 3-5 days before shipment.

Of course, I reserve the right to break these rules, as in I will most likely ship everyday (even Friday and Saturday as I always have) and I will most likely be completed with your custom order within 1-3 days before shipment, but!

I like to give myself enough buffer time in the case that I have exams, meetings, etc. You know, all that college stuff that happens last minute like...

"What?! We have a quiz tomorrow?!" or...
"It's 1 a.m. and you want to have a team meeting right now? Like now now?" or...
"The roads have frozen over and classes are canceled? Buses aren't running?" or...
"Free food and t-shirts on campus? Where?!"

You know, just an example.

Spring is'a Bloomin'!

It's hard to stay in the winter mode when it's mid-60F outside. So I've been preparing for the spring line, and I think you'll just luuurrrvvveee these leather cherry blossoms that have been cut by hand by me with my favorite weapon, scissors. No exactos, templates or dyes here. It's all freehand, so each flower is completely unique. Stay tuned for these coming to the shop!

It has been dyed in red then stained with black, and oiled to give a soft and shiny finish (and improve its water resistance!). When the leather is folded, it uncovers the juicy red undertone, thus I called it black cherry. I exposed the edges as much as I could to show this luscious red leather.

Spring 2009 Sneak Preview

Whew, the holidays brought many nights of sewing great leather bags! Thanks to all of you for supporting my budding business. You're making an investment in my future career (I'm hoping!). With the economy in its state, I think it may be a bit difficult finding an engineering job, so...accessories it is! :)

Moreover, I've had some time to work on the upcoming Spring 2009 collection. This spring will bring many bags bearing the beautiful batik fabric of the wonderful and talented Margot Bianca. Talk about alliteration. Some of you may know her from her feature on Etsy before Thanksgiving. I fell in love with her wonderfully functional batiks, I had to incorporate them into the new spring line! I'm very excited about our collaboration!

Perfect for an Outing

New pictures of Mama Ruche in black genuine leather. You can see how silky smooth the leather is -- very little visible grain, super soft hand. And of course, with the new metal rivet on the handles (in gunmetal, oh la la!). Go ahead, fill'er up, it'll hold even your heaviest goods!

Reinforcements have arrived!

Yeah, I used to be quite the C&C Red Alert fan back in the day (before they came out with 2 and 3 when it became too graphics-heavy).

Leather bags have undergone a hardware upgrade! Hooray! Rivets have been added to reinforce the handles; they'll stay put, no worries!

A new prop has been added to the photo studio, the wooden rack.

And for the cherry, the baby ruche now comes in milk chocolate brown genuine leather! It's buttery soft chap leather, so it feels quite weighty even when its empty. I think you'll like this one. I accidentally messed up the first one, so I'm keeping it. ;)

It's made-to-order and an adjustable strap can be added upon request. Like all leather bags, you choose the lining, strap option, and closure. You can also ask me about making one for you in the Mama Ruche (Ruched Bottom Bag, larger version).

Congratulations to Chris Fematt from Boston, MA for submitting the winning design for the hip pocket design competition! Enjoy his amazing sketches of the new hip pocket that will be offered in the shop! I'll keep you posted when it is available.
