Head to Toe: Band, Bag & Brogues

Notice I'm gettin' a little more creative with my titles. Eh?

This round of Head to Toe styles comes from my love of hair swag. And shoes. Of course.

It's feeling a lot like spring here in Austin despite the ONE DAY of snow.  Really, the snow took us by surprise --just last weekend it was sunny and in the high 70s and all of a sudden, it freezes and snows. Very strange, but the snow was very lovely.

Well, with the coming of spring comes lots of bright sunny colors, ruffly summer dresses, and slow-mo running through fields of wheat and daisies (probably not the same field).  So what better to hold back your hair as you gallop than a pretty head band?  Well, put on your pretty vintage wingtip shoes, lady, and swing one of these bags over your shoulders, because we're getting awfully close to Spring Break season!

Friday Finds: Shades of Teal

Teal is one of my favorite colors. I love it in all shades and hues --possibly prefer it more on the blue side...at least for today.  Which is why I was SUPER excited when I found this Teal Blue leather!  And it's distressed, too!  *Swoon!*

Although I've made only one Hip Pocket in this beautiful leather, keep an eye out for more designs coming soon. The Baby Ruche may be next because it's my next batch of bags to make and ship by next week! Fortunately, I'm a little ahead of my sewing schedule because I worked a couple hours overtime yesterday to finish all the fabric Travelers that shipped out today.

I haven't had a lot of time to make new bags because of the current queue but no worries, I'll be working overtime in the next few weeks and you'll see a new bag design (that I designed over six months ago) that will be launched, along with new leather colors and fabrics. :)

And now, to the featured picks of the day from some of my favorite Etsy sellers!

Spring Preview

Just finished some new items for the Spring line. It's coming along very very slowly because I still have a lot of made to order bags to make and I sneak a new item in every now and then when I am making a big batch of bags (like this Baby Ruche in the batch of Ruched Bags that shipped out this morning!).

There's a new upgrade available for the Hip Pocket. You can add a wristlet attachment to the bag! You can see more details in the listing.  Add this upgrade to any of the Hip Pockets!

The new leather color featured today is TEAL! You can get any of the bags from the shop in this new leather! Just message me for a custom listing. :)

Lacking Conversation

I'm in the last stretch of the six month mark of working full-time for my business, and I finally feel the loneliness of being the only employee in the shop.

In the view of my friends, this is the life. I get to work on my own terms -- no manager breathing down my neck, no morning meetings to discuss data analysis of the previous day, no presentations to give to the director, etc.

But in reality, I experience a lot of those things in a different way. I don't have a manager, but I have my own conscience that is constantly thinking about when I need to ship bags and whether I should skip lunch or dinner so I can get bags made in time for shipment.

No morning meetings, but instead I spend the first 1.5 hours of my morning answering Etsy convos, e-mails, and I analyze the data from Google Analytics to see how I can improve my web presence and sales.

I don't give presentations to any directors, but I do have craft sales where I feel like I'm giving a presentation (to potential customers) in hopes of receiving some positive feedback on my progress.

Running a business is tough because you're playing so many roles from administrative work, customer service, manufacturing, photography, modeling, marketing, selling, and packaging for shipping. All done by one person. With no one else to talk to and bounce ideas off of to improve work efficiency (though I do get a lot of feedback from The Boy on ways to improve the business work flow).

I will admit, it is nice working from home, though it does get lonely as my only conversations are to my pug Hubert, and to my Facebook/Twitter friends. It's good, but not nearly as fun as talking face to face with a human being. Plus, I think this is slowly degrading my verbal communication skills.

The times I look forward to most are when The Boy comes home for lunch. That's when I get to see and speak to a person, and it feels really great to have an hour or more to have that needed conversation to get me through the rest of my day. It's when The Boy has lunch with his co-workers when my workday is the worst. It's a full 9-12 hours of no human interaction. Fortunately, those are rare.

But I won't ramble on too long about working alone at home. It started snowing here just a couple hours ago, and it was just the break I needed to stop sewing, put on my winter boots and coat and take some pictures. I hope you enjoy!

Skinny Ties, Getting Skinnier

Everywhere I look and read, I see these two trends.  Food Trucks and Skinny Ties.  I'm no food aficionado, so we'll go with the latter.

Yesterday, The Boy and I went shopping and he purchased his second skinny tie, and this little guy was nearly an inch wide.  In another year, I'm pretty sure these will be just a single silk thread. :)

Skinny Ties Back in the Day

You can find them at stores like American Apparel and Neiman Marcus.

Head to Toe: Dress, Boots & Bag

I must say, I'm a boots girl.  Flats are OK. Heels are nice. But boots! I just love boots. It may be the Texan in me, because I have many (many many many) pairs of boots (mainly the cowboy kind). I try to match my clothing around my boots so I can wear them at every opportunity --summer, spring, and fall (we don't have much of a winter here in Austin). :)

Spring is coming, and I can't help but browse Etsy for some pretty little dresses and boots.  As I was window shopping, I thought of an idea; how about I share my shopping experience with you?

Introducing the new series, "Head to Toe" featuring some of my favorite fashion finds paired with a bag from the shop. :)

Monday Finds: Honey & Jam Photography

It has been really cold lately. And because I'm a Southern girl, cold to me is like any temperature below 40 F. Austin has been pretty warm for the winter, but all of a sudden the weekends have been freezing and I've had to bust out the winter coats and I find myself drinking hot tea, coffee, apple cider, and really anything warm. I am not a coffee drinker. Okay, I'll correct myself in that I'm not MUCH of a coffee drinker. I don't think a cup of cream with a couple spoonfuls of coffee really count for a cup of coffee. But yeah...

I've been browsing Etsy to find great items that remind me of being warm, and I found Honey & Jam Photography.  Have you seen Hannah's work? It's beautiful! And it makes me feel all warm and cozy.

Plus, she shares all her recipes online!! I think I'm going to pick up baking just because all her goodies look SOOOO delicious!
