Taking Great Photos Book Feature + Giveaway!

I get a lot of questions from aspiring and newbie Etsy shop owners for tips on becoming more successful in selling on Etsy.  My first and most important piece of advice is to take beautiful and clear photographs of your products.  Then I send them the link to how I went full-time selling on Etsy.

I am always on the quest to find ways to take better photos --there's always room for improvement!

Fortunately, a wonderful photography-whiz, Heidi Adnum recognized my passion for product photography and featured me in her book, The Crafter's Guide to Taking Great Photographs. (She also has an Etsy shop.)

I finally got my copy (!!!) and am participating in an online book tour to share my thoughts on the book!

This book covers literally everything you need to know about product photography in a language that's really easy to understand!

She introduces all the photography terms in an easy-to-digest way.  I've actually never had any formal training in photography, and it was great to actually learn about all of the terms and how they affect your final photo.

There are lots of diagrams on various ways to photograph a product under different light sources in order to achieve the perfect, clear and beautiful photograph that represents your product.  And you don't need all the fancy expensive photography equipment, either.

Plus, there's lots of features of different crafters and how they photograph their products (including all the info on how I photograph and edit my product photos).

This is definitely a book I'll go back to again and again for reference.

And guess what?

You get a chance to win a free copy!

To enter the giveaway, comment with a link to an online shop with product photography you really admire (Tell me why you like their photography, too!).  Remember to include your email address so we can contact you if you've won!

Last day for entries is Monday, Feb 6, 11:59 EST.
Winner will be chosen randomly and announced on this entry.

Or you can buy the book on Interweave or Amazon.

Good luck!

p.s. Behind-the-scenes from the photoshoot above. :)

  4. Congrats on the feature! I like and

They use natural light and the photos look casual, like daily photos from blog, and I enjoy it more than boring photos taken under artificial light in a studio which look too commercial. And I love it even more when a photo has a window and plants in the background. It gives you more personal feel.

  5. For me the website and shop of Merchant & Mills is real eyecandy. They consistenly use black and white in their photography and if you can make an ordinary box of pins look great, then I think you're are talented photographer!
